How Does Florinef Work In Treating Addison27s Disease
Pharmacy Drugs
Feldene Piroxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that used in relieving the symptoms caused by osteoarthritis and rheumatoid, dysmenorrhoea, and post-operative pain. It can also act as an analgesic and as veterinary medicine in treating particular neoplasias that express cyclooxygenase receptors, like colon, prostate, and bladder cancers. It is prescribed for both sudden flare-ups and long term treatment.
Mechanism of action
Feldene Piroxicam works by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis, acting on heat-regulating centers on the hypothalamus, blocking prostaglandin synthetase action that prevent platelet-aggregating substances from forming, and decreasing pain sensitivity. Its functions also include the stabilization of lysosomes, leukotriene and kinin production, alterations in chemotactic factors, and the inhibition of neutrophil activation. Neutrophil deactivation may be considered to be a significant pharmacologic activity geared towards reducing inflammations.
Taking medication
Feldene Piroxicam are taken orally and should always follow prescription instructions. They can be taken with water for easier swallowing or food to prevent an upset stomach. If the medication is to be taken before bedtime, take a dose at least 10 minutes before lying down. Do not take extra doses to make up for a missed one, and as much as possible, take the medication around the same times of the day. Full effect of the medication may take up to 7 to 12 days before they are felt.
Drug interaction
Care must be taken when taking Piroxicam as it interacts with the alcohol, other NSAIDs, aspirin, cyclosporine, cidofovir, entecavir, herbal products with ginger, garlic, feverfew, or ginkgo biloba, lithium, furosemide, blood pressure medication, platelet medication, blood-thinning medication (anticoagulants), methotrexate, pemetrexed, and diuretics.
Side effects
Side effects for use of Feldene Piroxicam include: signs of bleeding (bruising, black and tarry stools, red skin spots, blood in urine, unusual weakness or lack of energy, vomiting blood or what looks like ground coffee), allergic reactions (breathing difficulty, wheezing, skin rashes, redness, skin peeling, blistered skin, itching, hives, swollen lips, throat, and eyes), blurred vision, changes in amount of urine discharge, severe heartburn, difficulty in swallowing, throat pain, difficulty or pain in passing urine, stomach cramps or pains, swollen ankles or feet, and jaundice.
