How Long Before Coversyl Plus Works

Generic Drugs

Combipres, also known by generic names like clonidine and chlorthalidone, is commonly used for treating blood disorders like high blood pressure and hypertension. It is basically a combination of two medicines. Clonidine relaxes the vessels carrying blood and ensures the regulation of blood pumped from the heart to various body parts with the minimum possible resistance to reduce stress on the heart. Chlorthalidone is the second part of combipres, and increases the overall salt and water content of the body in order to reduce problems like swelling and edema. It works as a diuretic and ensures the replenishment of water and salts lost by urniation.

The effects:

Combipres works differently for different patients whose needs are properly assessed by a physician. It has been reported to cause further deterioration of various medical conditions. Patients with a history of liver diseases are advised not to take the drug. People who have had allergic reactions to sulfa drugs should not consume the medicine. Patients who have been treated for kidney disease, gout, diabetes, stroke, heart disease, high cholesterol, pancreatitis, dangerously high levels of triglycerides in the bloodstream, or collagen vascular diseases like the systemic lupus might not be able to tolerate Combipres and often need special monitoring when on drug therapy with the medicine.

The medicine has been proven to have little negative effect on pregnant females. It is not considered a threat to the fetus and has thus been put in the pregnancy risk category B by the American Food and Drug Administration. However, Combipres has been known to pass on young children through the mother's milk and could possibly be dangerous to the baby. The medicine is not approved for therapeutic usage by children and should thus be administered only with great care.

Some precautionary warnings:

Combipres should not be taken in excess of the prescribed dose as it may prove to be fatal. In case of a missed dose, the person should take the dose as soon as he remembers or when the next dose is. Taking two doses with a narrow gap in between can lead to a medical emergency condition known as an overdose with symptoms like nausea, seizures, vomiting, weakness, lethargy, drowsiness and other similar effects. It should not be mixed with any other medication as it may lead to a possibly dangerous situation.

The medicine has been proved to be extremely efficient in treating hypertension and high blood pressure but should be administered with great care.
