Desogen is a fairly popular contraceptive drug which is taken in tablet form. It contains hormones which prevent the egg being released from the ovary. The desogen birth control also makes it more difficult for any sperm to reach the egg.

What is Desogen?
Desogen birth control is a form of medication that is used to prevent pregnancy. Desogen prevents ovulation, and makes it harder for any sperm to fertilise the egg. There are other uses of desogen, however you must consult your doctor about these.

Who should use Desogen birth control?
You should not use desogen if any of the following are true:
- you are pregnant
- you recently gave birth
- you have had a stroke
- you have suffered from circulation problems
- you have suffered from breast cancer
- any history of jaundice caused by other contraceptive pills

If you have any of the following conditions you should notify your doctor before starting to take desogen.
- high blood pressure
- high cholesterol
- depression
- diabetes
- epilepsy
- irregular periods

Desogen birth control should not be used when you are pregnant as it can cause an increased risk of defects. If you fall pregnant, or miss two periods you should immediately notify your doctor.

If you have recently given birth you should wait at least a month before taking any form of birth control pill, if you're breastfeeding you should wait 6 weeks.

You should be cautious when taking desogen when breastfeeding as some of this medication can be passed on in the milk. Desogen birth control can also reduce the production of milk, it's advisable not to use this when nursing.

How should it be used?
When you first start using desogen birth control you should use some form of back up contraceptive. Your backup could include condoms or spermicide. If you're over 35 and smoke taking the drug leaves you more open to the onset of heart attacks.

If you are currently taking any other medication you should consult your doctor as taking desogen birth control in combination with a number of other medications can make it less effective. You shouldn't take any other medication without first asking your doctors approval.

Your doctor will prescribe a specific dosage to you depending on your needs. You should take the medication exactly as your doctor prescribed it to you, do not take it for any longer than stated.

During the first three months of being on the desogen birth control it's normal to experience some light bleeding, however if this is heavy or continues for a long time then notify your doctor. If you do not take the medication regularly it is possible that you will fall pregnant.
