Vantin medication is a type of drug that fights against bacteria that is in the human body. This drug can be used to combat a number of infections.
What is vantin medication?
Vantin medication is also known as Cefpodoxime, it's actually a type of antibiotic and is commonly used for treating a number of different bacterial infections including:
- ear infections
- urinary tract infections

As with all antibiotics once you start a course of vantin medication you must take all of the medicine that has been prescribed to you. If you start to feel better you must carry on anyway. You should take the tablets at meal times as this makes them easier for your body to absorb. If you are using suspension (liquid) then you can take this at any time.
Who is vantin medication suitale for?
You should not take vantin medication if you have ever had a n adverse reaction to penicillin unless you discuss it with your doctor first.
If you have kidney disease, or colitis then you must tell your doctor before taking vantin medication.
Vantin suspension has sucrose in it to make it taste better. If you are suffering from diabetes then you should be aware of the content of sugar, perhaps you could use the tablets instead.
Vantin medication is not thought to harm a baby, however you must consult your doctor if you are taking this medication and become pregnant. Vantin medication passes into milk and could affect breastfeeding.
How should vantin medication be taken?
You should take vantin medication exactly as your doctor prescribed it to you, if you don't understand the instructions then you can ask the pharmacist for advice.
You should not take vantin medication at the same time as you take any antacid, or anything that reduces stomach acid. You should make sure you shake the suspension before taking it as it can settle.
If you miss a dose of your vantin medication then you should take the dose when you remember. Then space the remaining doses out throughout the rest of the day until you get back to your normal pattern.
If you take an overdose then immediately seek medical advice, you might notice sickness, diarrhea and cramps in the abdomen.
